How To Save Money on Lighting

We have all heard about the benefits of this lighting and the effect this one can have on the atmosphere of your house, but yet many of us have not gone out and purchased the right lighting that we need anyways.

Why is that? Well for most people, they say it costs too much. However, we say this because we are uninformed. Using such lights can actually save you money and I will now demonstrate how.

Yes, the initial cost of a new lighting structure may seem expensive, but the fact of the matter is, if you get the right type, the cost can be re-couped within 1 year, and depending on the type even just 60days!
How can it be you ask? The thing is, today's lighting is being made to be more and more energy efficient.

The cost of lighting is usually broken up into three parts. The cost of electricity makes up 88% of the total while the initial cost only makes up about 4%.

So by implementing the proper lighting you can reduce the amount of energy or electricity that is being used, and therefore save on the most expensive aspect of all lighting. So ignore the initial cost of a lighting fixture or type when looking into your lighting desires, after all it is only 4% of the cost.

Another factor to look into when looking at the costs of lighting is the input wattage. A standard magnetic ballast and two forty watt T-12 lamps has an input wattage of 96 watts, while the wattage of low power electronic ballast and two T-8 lamps is only 49 watts. See the difference? It is almost half! By choosing the proper lamps you can use less energy.

By upgrading to a high output ballast you save money by removing some of the other lamps being used around the house. Incandescent signs use 10%, ore energy than LED and Incandescent bulbs use 25% more energy than a CFL or Compact Fluorescent lamp. All it takes is the right type of lighting to save money on energy.

A minor factor in saving money is the air conditioning factor. A common misconception is that air conditioning is more expensive than lighting. Well that can be due to the fact that many lights give off extra heat.

During the Summer time this extra heat can change the temperature in the house from as little as .9 degrees Fahrenheit and even go up to as hot as 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
This forces your air conditioning to work that much harder and drives up the prices. So again, it is important to find energy efficient lighting.

Finally comes the maintenance cost. Certain lightings last longer than others. Therefore you have to go out and buy replacement bulbs and then of course waste time and labor getting them and reinstalling them. This aspect makes up the final 8% of the lighting costs.

LED's, T-8's Electronic ballasts and even CFL's last longer than the T-12's incandescent and magnetic ballasts. So by using the right lighting types you can de-lamp the setting, and therefore save on replacements, and you can gain an additional saving on not having to replace the more efficient ones as often. What can be better?

The proper lighting has been thoroughly demonstrated to be able to save you the user, a lot of money. So do not worry about the initial costs of such lighting. It will end up to only being 4% of the cost and with their benefits that are mentioned above, you will end up re-couping your money, sometimes within 60 days. What do you have to lose? Not your money. So go out today and re-light your house to meet your pocketbook's wishes.
