Lighting Health Effects
While lighting can have such valuable effects as beautifying a landscape, highlighting specific works or locales for the purpose of directing one’s eye to something of significance, or simply allowing one to see properly, it can have negative effects as well. If the intensity and color spectrum is not right for the specific job or locale, adverse health and/or psychological effects.
Specification of illumination requirements is the concept of deciding how much illumination is needed for specific tasks. In simple terms, it is obvious less lighting is needed for hallways than what is needed at a work station. By having too much or too little lighting in the right locations can lead to problems.
Poorly lit workstations put a strain on the eyes. It becomes necessary to move your head closer to the specific job at hand to clearly see what is displayed. This causes the eye to strain itself and can lead to expensive costs from the adverse effect of becoming near sighted.
Not only are the eyes damaged, but glasses or contact lenses may need to be bought to correct the issue at hand and allow proper seeing. By having the proper lighting to begin with, this costly problem can be avoided.
Too much lighting can also cause problems as well. Too much light can lead to a glare and can lead to a decrease in work efficiency.
But a more serious effect of it can be an increase of headaches due to the high concentration of light being hit into your eyes. Another such effect can be stress and can develop into an increase in blood pressure and even later heart attacks.
With the constant rush of today’s life, such conditions simply slow things down and leads to unneeded irritation. The right lighting can take care of all of that however.
With such negative effects that improper lighting, it is obvious one should take the time to install the proper lighting. If there is too much or even too little lighting at the right location, negative health issues can arise and lead to unneeded irritation and stress. All it takes to avoid it, is the right lighting.
